Does your newsfeed drive you crazy on Facebook? It doesn’t have to be that way! You have a lot of options available to you to manage your feed, create lists and seperate business from pleasure. It will make your facebook homepage a much more pleasant and organised place to be!

Newsfeed in General
Annoying isn’t it when Joe Bloggs has made a pile of pancakes in Cafe World and wants to share them with you? Fanny Adams has found $1000 in Mafia Wars and 20 other friends have been up to the same thing. Your newsfeed is full of application posts and you have to scroll down to find posts from your friends and family in between the junk which you have no interest in.

You can get rid of these posts with two simple clicks of the mouse. Hover over the offending post and you will see a small grey button appear in the top right hand side that says “hide”. Click and you will be given two options “Hide “Name of Application”” or “Cancel”. Click Hide and all posts from that application will disappear from your feed. Simple as that. You do need to do it for each application but it will clean up your feed of those unwanted posts quickly and easily.

A box will appear that will give you the option to Edit Feed so you can control other options of your feed including who has already been taken out of your feed and you can also view recommendations (Facebook determines who it thinks you want to see automatically) you now have the opportunity to manage who does and doesn’t appear in your feed.

Create a List
Creating lists is a simple way to seperate business friends, pages your are a fan of, family and other friends in to bite size managable feeds.

  1. Firstly click on “Friends” on the left hand navigation.
  2. A box will appear to the top right hand corner of the page that says “+create a list”.
  3. Click and then name your list appropriately i.e. Business.
  4. You can now select the firends, groups and pages you would like to add to that list.
  5. Simply click create and the a new tab will appear under the “friends” tab in your left hand navigation.
  6. Click the tab and you will see all the friends and businesses you have added to that list and their posts.

**The posts will not disappear from your main newsfeed though, this just enables you to keep a closer eye on who you are following and to ensure you don’t miss any important updates**

Add pages to “My Favourites” on your FanPage
Another way to remember all the pages you are a fan of (or those you want to keep a close eye on) is by adding them as a favourite to your own fanpage.

  1. Visit the fanpage you would like to add.
  2. Click “Add to my page’s favourites” underneath the logo/picture of the fan page on the left hand navigation.
  3. A pop up will appear that has a drop down box.
  4. Select the page you would like to add the fanpage you are visiting to.
  5. Click “Save”

You now have a quick reference for pages that you would like to visit frequently from your own fanpage. Your own fans can also see this favourites box and may also be interested in the pages you are a fan of – so be warned not to put anything compromising in there! Not that you would….

Hopefully this has helped you create a less busy and confusing feed each time you login to Facebook to check up on the latest news, it won’t be to everyone’s taste, I understand organised chaos but for those it does help – enjoy 🙂
